We will be coming together to mark one of the most significant military operations in history and to remember those who took part, and those who gave their lives to liberate Europe.
Flag raising ceremony
Everyone is invited to join us for readings and a short flag-raising ceremony outside the council offices in Farnborough from 10.30am, or at Princes Gardens in Aldershot, for a flag raising at 11am.
If you would like to attend either ceremony, please arrive in good time.
Reception for veterans
Veterans and specially invited guests will be joining us for a private reception and readings at the council offices, including one from the Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor Mara Makunura.
Commemorations in the community
Pupils from Cherrywood Community Primary School in Farnborough and Talavera Junior School in Aldershot have recorded videos of special readings which you can see on our social media channels.
A number of pubs in Aldershot and Farnborough will also be lighting special lanterns at 9.15pm. These are The Snow Goose, Cove Ivy Leaf Club, The Alexandra, The Ship Inn and The Hawley Arms in Farnborough, and The George, The Victoria and The Trafalgar in Aldershot.
Local takeaways Oh My Cod, Aldershot, Big Fry, North Camp and For Cod Sake, Farnborough, are among the many fish and chip shops up and down the country aiming to sell 150,000 portions of fish and chips to mark the number of Allied troops that landed in Normandy by sea and air on D-Day.
The Princes Hall will also be specially lit up from 9.15pm onwards as part of the commemoration.
St Michael's Church in Aldershot are also taking part on the day with bellringing, bring-and-share food, music from the 1940s, dancing and a raffle between 6.30pm and 9:30pm. All are welcome. The event is free, but donations are welcome.
